The use of Wi-Fi cuts down incidents of stumbling around cords and wires at home, in the office or school. It also covers a larger area with more users than using standard wired router. The technology of wireless connection beats almost any odds using the Internet but there are certain things that can slow down the connection or weaken its signal which is a bummer.

It's also very inconvenient to demolish walls of the building just to address the obstacles and improve the signal. Hiring a technician could solve the problem without the worry of mistake if done by self-repair.

But there are easy ways to improve the Wi-Fi connection without having to pay a tech team or heavy machinery.

1. Download Time

Using inSSIDer tool gives in depth analysis of the network. It analyses local network traffic and shows some complex things about the network.

2. Network Scan

inSSIDer tool allows 2.4GHz channel search which will hunt down local area networks available.

3. Find a channel

A graph displays the map of networks in the area which falls along with 11 main wireless channels. The height in the graph shows the signal strength from the current location. Look for an area with some empty space or a quiet channel and note that number down.

4. Router

The chosen channel will become the new home network. If it's clear, a decent speed boost should be obvious. Changing channel on the router requires logging in to its admin interface which is basically different from every model.

5. Logging in the router

Since it varies in every model to every router, its best to consult the manufacturer, find it in the Internet, or search for its old box somewhere in the storage.

Normally, the IP address and model number is found at the bottom of the router device itself. The two items are needed to access the router and control it.

Once located, search the instructions online how to access the admin interface of the router.

After gaining access to the router interface, there are a lot of things you can do more especially with securities, changing the password, controlling the range of Wi-Fi, and manage firewall system as well.

If the change of the year is a signal to say goodbye to some things, then maybe 2013 is the perfect time to throw those wires and cables away and upgrade to Wi-Fi.

For Mac users, reports said that Apple will upgrade its Macs in 2013 to include 5g WiFi, a technology that will boost wireless connectivity speeds beyond one gigabit per second. Quoting Broadcom, Apple's chip partner, The Next Web said Apple just reached a deal with Broadcom to include its 5g WiFi chips in Apple's 2013 Mac lineup.
