A 22-year-old man from Oklahoma, U.S., has been charged with first-degree murder over the death of the 5-month-old child of his girlfriend. He allegedly killed the child during a football game on Dec 7.

Tre'Viance Markese Walker was babysitting his girlfriend's son, identified as J.B., when the unfortunate incident happened. He was watching the University of Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State football game on TV.

A newborn baby is pictured in Muslims Charity Hospital in Yangon November 1, 2013. Myanmar's reformist government is seeking foreign investment to revive one of Asia's sickest healthcare systems. Several leading regional healthcare companies are already operating in Myanmar and others plan to enter soon, seeing huge potential in the country's underserved population of about 60 million people. Attracting foreign investment is part of an overhaul of the healthcare system by the quasi-civilian government that took over from the army in 2011. The administration of President Thein Sein has cut military spending and raised healthcare funding to 3 percent of government spending this fiscal year to March 31, from 1 percent the previous year. As with many sectors, however, private firms say they are being held back by uncertainty over rules for foreign investors. Picture taken November 1, 2013. REUTERS/Soe Zeya Tun

Apparently, Mr Walker had placed a $200 bet on the game and lost. It was presumed he turned his ire to the baby who had been crying incessantly that time.

In that game, the University of Oklahoma blasted the Oklahoma State team with a 33-24 win. Oklahoma has now won at least 10 games in four straight seasons.

Neighbor Jimmy Shannon told Fox 25 Mr Walker picked up the 5-month-old infant "with such force as to snap the baby's neck."

An affidavit likewise stated that he dropped the infant from a height of 2 ft into his playpen.

When the baby became unresponsive 4 hours later, Mr Walker became rattled and called the police.

J.B. was immediately taken to the hospital. He had head trauma and bleeding in one ear. Later, he was pronounced dead. Autopsy results yielded hematoma on his brain, a result of the head injury.

"It's heart wrenching," Mr Shannon said. "It's disgusting, and it just makes me sick to my stomach."

Police said Mr Walker initially denied he harmed the baby but later confessed to the crime. He was arrested a full week later after J.B.'s death and a "probable cause" affidavit was filed by the police department.

"Detectives that were investigating this had some indication that he may be getting ready to skip," Captain Tom Easley of the Norman Police Department told News 9.

Mr Walker is currently detained at Cleveland County jail without bond.
