Ivan Milat is back in the news after getting convicted in 1996. He was convicted of killing seven people. However, there was a suspicion that he had killed dozens of others. As the police investigated further, Milat is left with just one more murder conviction, not dozens.

Serial killers are not a modern trend as we have seen many in the previous centuries. The 20th century saw some of the most horrific serial killers in the history.

Zodiac

Zodiac was the serial killer of Northern California, who operated during 1960s. This serial killing case remains unsolved till date as the identity of the killer is still unknown. The victims of Zodiac include three women and four men aged between 16 & 29. There have been numerous suspects for this case, but there was hardly any conclusive evidence.

David Berkowitz

David Berkowitz, notorious as the "Son of Sam" and the ".44 Caliber Killer" was a serial killer from USA, who terrorized the city of New York with his crimes in 1970s. He was arrested in 1977 and was convicted of six murders.

Javed Iqbal

This serial killer from Pakistan was guilty of sexually abusing and allegedly killing 100 children. Though the number of his crimes touched 100, around 26 of these children were found alive later, after he died in 2001. The case is officially closed now. However, several allegations were raised claiming loopholes in the investigation.

Harold Shipman

The British serial killer Harold Shipman was a former doctor, known as one among the most creative serial killers the world has ever seen. He was convicted of killing 218 people but the actual number of murders he committed was more than the recorded number. Most of his victims turned out to be women. Shipman committed suicide in 2004.

Henry Lucas

An American serial killer who was convicted of being involved in around 600 killings, Lucas killed around one person every week on an average. He confessed that he murdered people in order to improve his living standards.
