5 One Hit Wonders That Deserve to Make One More Hit Song
Some artists are so fortunate to have made a huge impression after just releasing one hit song. However, there are some that only went as far as making that song a hit then disappearing immediately afterwards.
Here are five artists that could still use their creative juices.
1. "My Sharona" by The Knack
The American rock quartet was based in Los Angeles, California when their hit song "My Sharona" topped the international charts in 1979. Their debut album "Get the Knack" became a best-seller. However, their album packaging was criticized for being very similar to "Meet the Beatles" by the famous English quartet.
2. "Who Let The Dogs Out" by the Baha Men
Their hit song was released in 2000 that made platinum three times. However, their subsequent albums were not as catchy. According to Buzzfeed, their last album "Holla!" was released in 2004.
3. "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred
With its lone debut song, Right Said Fred became the first U.K. band since The Beatles to garner the top spot in America. The song was used in over 100 advertisements and 50 movies. The song was released in 1991 and since that time, the band continued to release albums up to the present but none was as successful as "I'm Too Sexy".
4. "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes
The hit song was released during the early 1990s. In 1995, however, while the group was recording their second album, they separated and went on to pursue their musical careers singly or with other bands, in a report by Pop Crush.
5. "Closing Time" by Semisonic
The American alternative rock band had their big break in 1998 after "Closing Time" became a hit in the United States. The song was part of their second album "Feeling Strangely Fine". They were able to come up with one more album "All About Chemistry" in 2001, but it was not as successful as their second.
Many bands can contribute to their success to one hit song in the past that they continue to play to fans in live shows and are played by other artists in cover albums.
