FOX's sitcom New Girl was one of America's most anticipated shows in the final quarter of 2011. The show was met with high expectations as its lead, Zooey Deschanel, is already a show to watch by herself.

Among other films, Zooey has made quite an impact with her role as the realist-turned-romantic Summer in the film '500 Days with Summer.'

A lot of people were interested in seeing what Zooey could bring in to America's sitcom collection as Jess Day, an adorably eccentric school teacher who often finds herself in awkward yet funny scenarios that are sometimes too much (or too crazy) for one person to handle.

Zooey did not disappoint on the show's pilot episode. As a naïve girlfriend who discovered her live-in boyfriend was cheating on her, she got the quirky funk going on from the 'breaking point' until the last few minutes of the show, making Fox realize that they could order for more episodes instead of setting for a little over a dozen for the show's first season.

Proof positive that the right girl was cast for the role, Zooey received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical.

New Girl has a globally appealing modern day premise: In the age of Craigslist, a generally conservative schoolteacher finds herself being interviewed by three equally quirky men for a room in their apartment. Their individualities make a quick recipe for a truly odd, dysfunctional - and very funny - bunch of fellows in their mid-to-late 20s. But does the show have enough to intertwine everyone's character together?

America is now into the eleventh episode of the sitcom, and so far, so good. Each character has been identified - the weirdness, the baggages, and the treasures. Not every history's been revealed, but things are unfolding naturally each episode. And the most important - every character is just crazy hilarious.

That said, here are Five Good Reasons to Watch 'New Girl:'

5. Cece (Hannah Simone), the hot print ad model slash best friend. Any girl starting a new chapter in her life, especially after a 6-year relationship, should have her best friend by her side. From grieving to rebound, to denial, to meeting new men, a girl's gotta have someone to keep pushin' her on even when her hormones are all telling her to wallow in misery.

Cece: I'm trying to help you. You never make a move.
Jess: I don't need your help. I like moving slow. I like being weird and taking my time...

-Season 1 Episode 5: Cece Crashes

4. Schmidt (Max Greenfield), the sweet and sensitive but gravely insecure metrosexual, who disgusts everyone with his attempts at catchphrases. He fills the group's douchebag jar with lots of bucks, but he gets funnier each episode.

I did it, man. I'm holding her hand right now.
She's in my bed. And she's asleep... I closed!

-Season 1 Episode 5: Cece Crashes

3. Nick (Jake Johnson (II), the typical hopeless romantic, the one every girl would be happy to introduce to mom if only he were still not so into his ex. One could easily tell he and the 'new girl' are bound to explore a crazy romantic relationship, but not just yet.

Jess to Nick: Hey, she has a boyfriend. She shouldn't have been flirting with you all night. You can't be her back-up plan.
-Season 1 Episode 3: Wedding

2. Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel), the reluctant go-getter, the shy-but-open-to-anything girlfriend, the sweetest and most supportive friend, ever. The show is about her, the 'new girl,' after all.

1. The roomies. The dysfunctional it's-not-supposed-to-work-but-it-does group. The sex, dating, relationships and break-up rules -- from Mars and Venus, from conventional and modern perspectives. As in any effective sitcom, the characters get funnier the more you get to know them. Schmidt is particularly steadily growing on a lot of audience. He dishes out the most absurd lines, but he does pay for it, literally!

New Girl premiered in Australia on January 22, and will air in New Zealand starting February 7.
