5 Reasons Why Renewing 'The X-Files' Could Appeal To The New Generation
Fox is reportedly trying to prepare for “The X-Files” to return to television. The series has become one of the most famous in TV history for being the longest running science fiction show, featuring Dr. Dana Scully and Fox Mulder.
After nine seasons and two films, the new generation will most likely still warmly embrace the plot and culture. Here are five reasons why “The X-Files” can still be as successful as before.
1. David Duchovny returns
The new generation is familiar with Duchovny playing the role of Mulder. It would have been a different situation if another actor would reprise the role. USA Today reported that the actor stated that he is more than happy to return onscreen, especially with co-star Gillian Anderson, who played Dr. Scully. Fans today can still get the same treatment as those in decades past.
2. The conspiracy theories
Conspiracy theories never grow old. The original series always incorporated elements of treachery and had the most unexpected twists that kept viewers coming back for more.
3. Independent woman
Since the original series started, Dr. Scully was depicted as an independent and strong-willed woman who did not rely on anyone, including Mulder, for help, based on an article by WhatCulture. She investigated on her own most times and was also skeptical about the extra-terrestrial. Considering how female independence and strength have been exemplified in recent years, the character is expected to be well-loved as ever.
4. The supernatural
People’s interest in the supernatural and extraterrestrial has not wavered in the past years. Their theories and notions have actually enhanced, as evidenced by the success of recent sci-fi films and TV shows. Bringing back a classic sci-fi TV show is expected to generate a lot of respect from those who previously had to deal with reruns only.
5. The truth is out there
The famous tagline has resonated through the years and, even today, people continue to talk about the possibilities of alien life and its existence on Earth itself. “The X-Files” always showed that even though Scully and Mulder might have fixed certain situations, evil remained, which is also the reason why there is always work to be done.
“The X-Files” was shown on Fox from 1993 to 2002. If the series were to return, it will most likely have a solid fan base, consisting of old and new viewers.
