'Chillwave' is the new sunscreen.

Sometimes, air conditioning or an ice-cold cola won't do the trick, but here are five songs to freshen your mood during a hot summer day.

Filled with playful synths, electronic licks and danceable loops, these songs will fill your mind with images of swimsuits, beach balls, sweaty nights, fruity cocktails, and tanned skin. There's nothing better to describe the season with a list of songs fit for a road trip, the beach, or a tropical paradise daydream. A fresh mix of intoxcating grooves and synthesizers to go with the lingering urge to do something crazy, or memorable during this season.

Created by mostly DJs and bands in the west coast, "Chillwave," or glo-fi, pairs bright, melodic atmospheres with loose, and ambient beats. This new genre or musical movement is closely associated to electronica, dream pop, new wave, sythpop, trip-hop, and sometimes, hip-hop. Hazy vocals are also present, giving that effervescent and aerial sound that completes a summer experience in five minutes or less.

Having that 80's new wave feel, only more relaxed and intoxicating, chillwave is something that's etched in the current hip scene. Though it won't be long until another electronic sub-genre pops out and overpowers this one, chillwave will continue to rule summer playlists around the world.

It's as if the song takes the listener to a secluded beach in the middle of the city.
