Sitting in a plane for 10 hours or more can be a stressful experience, especially if you do not have activities to stay amused. You can, however, make the most out of long haul flights by making a few preparations.

1. Upgrade

If you cannot get an economy seat with enough leg room space, use your frequent flyer miles to upgrade. This is the perfect time to try business class. You get a bigger seat, more than enough leg room and peace and quiet the entire time. Upgrading also offer you fully reclining chairs, more and better food and drinks and several forms of entertainment like your own TV, radio and phone.

2. Bring the needed gadgets

Carry your laptop, tablet and music player with you. These should be fully charged before the flight to last the entire trip. When traveling business class, you may be allowed to plug in your laptop or connect online. These will help while away time effectively. You can watch a movie, work or play games with these devices.

3. Get sleeping aids

In a report by IndependentTraveler.com, you might consider bringing sleeping pills. Have your doctor prescribe one for you to stay relaxed or sleep through the flight. Most airlines will offer sleeping aids like ear plugs, eye blinds and blankets. Ask for these at any time to sleep better and longer.

4. Move

Some airlines allow passengers to walk along the aisles for a few minutes to stimulate blood flow and stretch their muscles. Make it a habit to go to the lavatory at least once every two hours to improve blood circulation. Do a few stretches to prevent muscle strains. You also prevent the risk for having a mini stroke or other serious conditions due to prolonged sitting.

5. Eat

In a report by Lifehacker.com, eating will help you survive long haul flights better. Bring your favorite snacks and drinks but make sure that these do not upset your stomach during the flight. A few days before the flight, keep your diet light and healthy so your stomach stays still the entire time. Snack on your packed treats every now and then while you read or watch a movie.
