60-Year-Old Vancouver Man Charged with Sex Assault
According to the members of Vancouver's sex crimes, the man who was responsible for assaulting a woman in the West Side of the city, has been caught.
The suspect is Bogdan Murawski, 60, who is a resident of Vancouver. Mr Murawski is expected to return to provincial court on Oct 17 in order to face the accusations. It was around 10:30 pm when the woman to be assaulted was walking near West 14th Ave on Alma Street on Sept 22. A man grabbed and consequently groped the woman. She managed to run away primarily. However, she was chased for a few blocks and assaulted once again. All her pleading to leave her alone went in vain.
It took intense research in the neighbourhood by the Vancouver police as well as community safety personnel and the sex crimes unit. They investigated the entire area for leads for several days. Extensive investigation included looking for people or video that could possibly identify the man who committed the crime. Eventually, they identified Mr Murawski as the prime suspect.
Even though sexual assaults are social crimes and the victim can never morally be held responsible for the act, the victims who are mostly women should avoid dangerous situations, according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.
Here are more tips from the network:
You should be aware of the surroundings and the people who are around you. You should avoid isolated locations as it will be more inconvenient to ask for help if required. Your walk should show your purpose. Even if you are not aware of the route you are walking on, you should not behave in a way that shows that you are lost.
Women are believed to have instincts to determine a potential uncomfortable or unsafe situation. If you are not comfortable being where you are, it may be time to leave the place immediately. You should not move with a lot of packages with you as this may make you look much more vulnerable.
Finally, keep your mobile handy and charged. Have some extra money with you in case you need a cab to get away from an uncomfortable situation. Do not walk oblivious with earphones plugged in both your ears. you are walking alone.
