Jon Hamm has bagged the coveted Golden Globe for Best performance by an actor in a television series -- drama category for "Mad Men" by beating competition from the likes of Liev Schreiber ("Ray Donovan"), Wagner Moura ("Narcos"), Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul") and Rami Malek ("Mr Robot").

“I really did not think I was going to be doing this,” Hamm said during acceptance speech, adding that he was “humbled” to be included with his fellow nominees. He also had words for "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner: “Thanks to Mr. Weiner, who wrote this horrible person all the way through to the end of the ride and for picking me to play him.”

Backstage, Hamm praised his fellow nominees, noting that “Narcos” blew his mind and he watched “every split second” of “Mr Robot."

“The HFPA supported us at the very beginning, when there was no ceremony because of the strike, and to end it this way is really gravy,” he said.

Hamm has been nominated for the Golden Globes six times in total, and he has won it twice, including this win. His first win was also for "Mad Men" in 200

AMC cult series "Mad Men" had its successful run for seven seasons. Its finale episode, “Person to Person,” aired on May 17, 2015.

Last year, Hamm won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for “Mad Men." He was nominated in the same category seven times before converting the eighth Emmy nomination into a win, much to the delight of his fans and critics.

“Mad Men” dealt with the business conducted by advertising agencies in 1960s America, as well as the personal lives of the characters.

The finale left audiences and fans divided as Draper was finally looking at attaining some sort of inner realisation through chanting of the divine word “OM,” but the chant gave him an idea for a Coca Cola commercial instead.

Many did not like the anticlimactic nature of the ending. Others thought it was in keeping with the spirit of the character, as Draper had sought similar peace before, but he never attained it. At the end of the day he makes a living out of ideas and his story ends on an apt creative note.
