Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia noted as a notorious dwelling for drug trafficking, kidnapping and murder. The city has managed to reinvent itself with tourism and shopping malls. However, some skeletons keep showing up from the cupboards of the "city of the eternal spring."

Reports claimed underaged girls are being kidnapped and their virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder in the city. Street gangs are extremely active in the slums in the hillside. Flesh trade is common as entrapped virgin girls are sold like slaves. Avid customers of these auctions are foreigners who visit the country to enjoy sex tourism. Drug tycoons are also among the biggest clients.

Most girls are aged 10 to 15 years old and are lured by high consumerism, according Luis Pardo, director of NGO Corporacion Consultoria de Conflicto Urabano.

He told The Independent that young girls are offered branded clothes, luxury restaurants, highly expensive alcohol and drugs and end up hooked to the vicious network.

Sexual extortion in the city of Pablo Escober is hardly reported to the law. Although there are some reported cases, authorities in the locality hardly do anything about it as hillside slums are under the gang control.

Prostitution is legal in the city for adult Colombian women. Medellin has a flourishing flesh trade to its tourists. The problem occurs when parents of underaged girls are instructed to take care of their daughters otherwise they may be sold. It is a common threat in the locality since underage prostitution is encouraged by the gangs in the community.

Auctioning the virginity of girls may not come as a surprise for people like Justin Sisely, an Australian filmmaker, who plans to film two virgins who are reported to sell off their virginity on camera. Young girls like Natalie Dylan, Alina Percea and Raffella Fico made news when they declared auctioning their hymens. Graciela Yataco is the first girl to start the auctioning trend of their V-card.

These girls are adults and may be allowed to act according to what they desire. But when a girl aged 10 is auctioned for her virginity, it definitely disgraces the human civilization.
