The production for the first flick of the new "Star Wars" trilogy will get underway soon with renowned director J.J Abrams revealing his plan to start filming in London late this year.

Abrams, who was tapped to direct the seventh chapter of the George Lucas' highly-acclaimed Star Wars franchise, shared some update about the production of the film at the Producers Guild of America in Los Angeles last Saturday.

"We are, most likely, if all goes as planned, going to be moving to London at the end of the year for the 'Star Wars' movie," Abrams said in the press conference, according to the Huffington Post.

Prior to director's announcement, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy already hinted that the production of Star Wars: Episode VII will be set across the Atlantic, as contrary to Abram's preferred site in Los Angeles.

With this development, the production will likely start during the later months of 2013, or early 2014.

The next Star Wars movie is expected to be the continuation of Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi, which is the final film of the first ever Star Wars trilogy, bringing the possibility for Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Skywalker) to reprise their respective roles.
