Abstinence Activist Bristol Palin Pregnant With Second Child Out Of Wedlock
Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaskan Governor and conservative politician Sarah Palin, announced her second pregnancy last Thursday with a blog post labelled as Big News.
In her post on the site Patheos, she wrote:
“I wanted you guys to be the first to know that I am pregnant. Honestly, I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my chin up on this one. At the end of the day there’s nothing I can’t do with God by my side, and I know I am fully capable of handling anything that is put in front of me with dignity and grace. Life moves on no matter what. So no matter how you feel, you get up, get dressed, show up, and never give up.”
Patheos is a website hosting global discussion on religion. The site aims to make an environment where “faith communities, academics, and the broader public” can convene and find “insight, inspiration, and stimulating discussion.”
The 24-year-old announced her first pregnancy when she was 17 in the middle of her mum’s vice presidency campaign. Now 6 years old, Tripp is the son of Bristol with Levi Johnston, whom Bristol was engaged to twice, though both engagements did not end in marriage.
This particular announcement drew flak since back in 2009, Palin’s daughter vowed abstinence after advocating it as a sure method to prevent pregnancy. In fact, the non-profit organisation Candie’s Foundation, which has a mission to educate “America’s youth about the consequences of teen pregnancy,” appointed her as its abstinence ambassador. According to Forbes, she was paid US$262,500 ($342781.25 in the current market) for her campaign stint.
Candie’s Foundation, however, showed Palin support. In their statement via twitter, the organisation remarked that they respected Bristol’s request for privacy.
They also extolled how Palin, then 17, was extremely helpful to the organisation and their mission. Furthermore, they wrote how admitting her faults publicly in order to help others was “remarkably brave.”
Bristol was set to marry Dakota Meyer, a Medal of Honor recipient back in 2011, until their broken engagement a month ago.
