Most of the general managers in the NBA believe that the Miami Heat are primed for another championship run.

In the annual survey from nba.com that queried all 30 GMs of the pro league, 75.9 per cent said that the Heat will achieve the rare NBA three-peat which has only been accomplished by three other franchises in the history of the league.

The Minneapolis Lakers led by George Mikan recorded the first three-peat coming out as champions in the early NBA years from 1952 to 1954. From 1959 to 1966, the Boston Celtics with Bill Russell dominated the league winning eight in a row.

It happened twice in the 1990s, courtesy of Michael Jordan’s who had three-peat, the first from 1991 to 1993 and after returning from his retirement, from 1996 to 1998. The latest to achieve the feat are the Los Angeles Lakers who won the titles from 2001 to 2003 and was led by Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

If the general managers are to be believed, it’s LeBron’s time to join the pantheon of champions who have won the three NBA titles in a row.

Also getting votes to win go all the way this year are the Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs (6.9 per cent) also receiving votes are the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Heat won in 2012, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder, 4-1 in the NBA Finals. They made it back-to-back in 2012, winning against the San Antonio Spurs in seven games.

While most GMs were in agreement that the Heat will win the East this year (86.2 per cent) they are divided on which team will come out of the Western Conference: 40 per cent opines that San Antonio will return to the NBA Finals while 36.7 per cent believe that Oklahoma City will have another shot at the heat in the championship round. Also getting votes are the L.A. Clippers (20.0 per cent) and Houston Rockets (3.3%).

The GMs were not permitted to vote for their own teams in the survey. For complete list of all questions and answers, go to NBA.COM.
