Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Chief Minister Jon Stanhope expressed disappointment with public transport provider ACT Internal Omnibus Network (ACTION). He stressed that the ACTION management failed to comply with legislation.

Stanhope said, “They must do far better than they're doing and they must get the fundamentals right” because of the money the Government is pouring into improving the bus network.

The Chief Minister, however, cited ongoing industrial disputes with the Transport Workers Union. “'I have absolutely no doubt that the industrial landscape [and] some of the conditions within the collective agreement impact very significantly on management action and managements capacity to manage,” Stanhope said.

Opposition transport spokesman Alistair Coe said the chief minister is the third minister to have failed in solving problems with ACTION. “Simon Corbell ... John Hargreaves and now it has got the better of Jon Stanhope.” Coe said.

The Auditor-General report exposed the bus company's failure to report all accidents and to follow up all customer complaints against drivers. Auditor-General Tu Pham also disclosed of the unsafe driving practices and lack of counselling for drivers who were repeatedly involved in accidents.

The ACTION bus fleet has 115 easy access buses. Its services include regular route services and dedicated school services providing a range of express and route services to and from all suburbs. The transport group also has a special needs transport service, a door-to-door service for clients of the Department of Education and Training.
