Android 4.2.2 Jellybean offered many changes and improvements on its fresh release to the Nexus device and later for more Android units. However, Google has killed an app as part of the update. Adblock Plus won't be included in the update because of one reason: security issues.

The flaw of the Adblock Plus on Android is the lack of ability to set a device's proxy server automatically which forces the user to do it manually just to gain the protection needed to block pop-ups. Google is avoiding more work just to manually set up the proxy settings every now and then by an Android user just for the Adblock Plus to work on full mode, and a user will probably think the app is up to no good for every manual changes required.

Adblock Plus developer had some frustration and stated, "This fix had made it impossible for Adblock Plus to automatically set the proxy for the current active connection. From a security prospective it makes sense but it has a significant, negative impact on everyone who uses our app. While in Android 2.x the proxy was globally configured for all connections, this changed with Android 4.x which requires to individually set a proxy for each Wi-Fi connection. In addition to that the proxy has to be set each time a user connects to a network and the process of changing those settings is not very user-friendly."

Adblock Plus is very popular for blocking annoying ads and can be installed to popular browser platforms such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera. The app blocks banners, pop-ups, and video ads which also work on Facebook and Youtube. It also features online privacy protection, disables online tracking, blocks malware, and best of all is free.
