Adele: 'I Risk Damaging My Voice Forever,' Throat Cancer Scare True or False?
Adele's soulful voice have propelled her to acclaimed fame and global recognition. But now, the singer-songwriter's voice might be in critical danger.
The Grammy winner cancelled all her remaining shows in 2011 due to "illness".
"Adele will be undergoing throat surgery to alleviate problems," a representative explained in an official statement.
The announcement - and her management's silence on the matter - has supporters of the songstress panicking over the development.
Twitter was flooded with messages of encouragement and sympathy for Adele, and there have been widespread rumors that say she has been diagnosed with throat cancer. The tag #prayforadele has begun trending on twitter as of today.
The rumors have neither been confirmed nor denied.
Her hiatus from performing is the only thing divulged by the singer herself.
"I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully or I risk damaging my voice forever," she admitted in a blog entry where the chart-topping musician apologized to her fans for cancelling many of her upcoming shows.
Reports say the British beauty have been told to take an indefinite break from performing after they found a hemorrhage on her vocal cords.
"Although she smokes, she is 23 years old," Dr. Reena Gupta pointed out in her blog.
"Even if she smokes two packs per day, and has been for a decade, it is nearly impossible to develop smoking-related cancer at such a young age."
The young star has been battling recurring illness since late December last year when she caught a bad bout of flu and didn't fully recover.
"It just got weaker and weaker until it eventually broke as I say," Adele described the ordeal in her blog.
