Adele and Kanye West: King and Queen of 2012 Grammy Nominees
2011's heartbreak tune queen, Adele, is rolling not just in the "deep", but also in her numerous Grammy nominations.
The British songstress pulled in impressive six nominations, earning her acclaimed sophomore effort "21" an Album of the Year nod, while giving "Rolling In The Deep" the titles of Song and Record of the Year.
Rounding out her nominations are Best Short Form Music Video for "Rolling In The Deep," Best Pop Solo Performance for "Someone Like You" and Best Pop Vocal Album for "21."
However, other nominees for the coveted Album of the Year category are just as tough, and might turn Adele's "tables" around on the 54th Grammy Awards: Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," Foo Fighters' "Wasting Light," Rihanna's "Loud" and Bruno Mars' "Doo-Wops & Hooligans."
If Adele is the queen, then the talented if abrasive Kanye West is the king.
Surprisingly, the rap superstar is the leading nominee with a total of seven nods, which rivals "Deep" with "All Of The Lights" for the Song of the Year trophy, and two (yes, two) entries for the Best Rap Album field for his critically adored "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and the collaboration album with Jay-Z, "Watch The Throne."
And it never stops. Singles from both albums, "All Of The Lights" and "Otis," respectively, battle for Best Rap Song.
Coming next in line with six nods among men are Mars, whose smash "Grenade" is a viable contender for Song and Record of the Year, and rock band Foo Fighters, with their single "Walk" up for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance.
Rapper Lil Wayne and dance music's Skrillex both keep up with five nominations each. Skrillex, acting as a wild card, joins Twitter fiend Nicki Minaj, country band The Band Perry, Jay-Z protegee J. Cole and indie darling Bon Iver in the Best New Artist category.
Another independent act, Mumford & Sons, garnered multiple nominations, too - four, that is. The Brits nabbed Song of the Year, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for their single, "The Cave."
Nevertheless, these aren't the only acts that vie for that golden gramophone. Here is a complete list of the nominees:
