Adele tops Australian Music Charts
Adele belted her way up the Australian music charts with her best-selling album, "21."
The British singer's album has been on the top of the music charts for 23 weeks, which is nearly half a year. Her first album "19," released in 2008, landed in 11th place.
Adele also dominated the singles' list with her three songs included in the Top 100, "Someone Like You" at No. 4, "Rolling in the Deep" at No. 5, and "Set Fire to the Rain" at No. 49.
Adele's performance in the charts was "unlike anything we've seen in recent times," said Australian Recording Industry Association chief executive Dan Rosen. "For an artist to contribute two singles and two albums to each top 20 line-up is just incredible and a credit to her wonderful talent."
Adele recently underwent throat surgery to save her beautiful voice. The singer stepped out a little bit thinner than usual because eating is now uncomfortable due to the surgery.
Now, the singer is currently looking for a new home in West Sussex due to doctor's recommendation that London's smog and pollution may worsen her condition. Cleaner air will aid her recovery from throat surgery she went last month. It is said that she is eyeing £2 million to £3 million worth of property away from the city. The singer added that she was hoping for a quick recovery to go quickly go back to singing.
Multi-instrumentalist Gotye was the best-selling Australian artist with his single "Somebody That I Used To Know," featuring Kimbra, finishing in second place and his album "Making Mirrors" coming in at No. 4.
"It is extremely pleasing to see a wider audience of Australian music fans embracing his immense talents," Rosen said of Gotye.
The singles chart was topped by the American hip-hop duo LMFAO's infectious "Party Rock Anthem." The held the number one spot for 10 weeks, going 10 times platinum with sales of more than 700,000 copies.
Belgian-born Gotye was the only Australian act with a single and album in the top five, although local artists had 22 Top 100 albums.
X-Factor winner Reece Mastin was at No. 15 with his self-titled debut, Cold Chisel's best-of collection "All For You" secured the 17th place and siblings Angus & Julia Stone were at 32nd place with Down The Way.
Nine singles from Australian acts made the Top 100, including Mastin at 27 with Good Night, Havana Brown's "We Run The Nigh"t at 40 and Adelaide's Guy Sebastian with "Who's That Girl, featuring Eve," at 47.
