An Afghan Pizza-delivery man was shot dead in Canada on Sunday. The shooting took place in Scarborough near Lawrence Avenue and Markham Road.

Abdul Monir, a 31-year-old father of two, recently came from Afghanistan to Canada in search of work, according to Toronto Police. Toronto Sun reported that another man, Rahim Dorani, was also shot by the same gunner. While he was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, Monir was declared dead on the spot. Det. Sgt. Graham Gibson said that Monir's wife as well as two children was still in his native country. Dorani is scheduled to undergo surgery.

Monir used to work in Pizza Time, a local pizza shop situated in the shopping plaza where the shooting took place. He started working at the pizza corner a couple of weeks back. Dorani, on the other hand, was the owner of the pizza shop. He was found under wounded condition near the front parking space. He was taken to Sunnybrook hospital immediately. "He is currently out of surgery and he's in critical care," Gibson said.

According to Gibson, this could be a case of an unsuccessful robbery attempt. A robbery gone wrong is "one of the things that we're considering," Gibson said, "We're not going to be able to speak to (the surviving victim) for some time, so we've got to keep our minds open, but that's always a possibility." Monir's family was "very upset" when it came to know about the news of his death.

Gibson said that the members of his family spoke "very highly" of Monir. His brother-in-law is based in Canada. In addition, He also had several close friends who considered him as their family. They've told me that he's got two children in Afghanistan - four and five years old, a boy and a girl - and he does have a wife there as well," Gibson said.

Hekmat, Dorani's son, identified him with tears in his eyes. He did not have any words to describe the situation when he saw shattered glass at his father's shop. He described Monir as an "honest" and "hardworking" man whom they had lost.
