Adam Goodes, who went down with a knee injury and has not played since June, will need to impress the in training, for him to be able to land a starting spot for Sydney Swans on Saturday.

"He'll have to train today and train well," Swans Captain Jarrad McVeigh told SEN.

"He's a champion but will have to train well and pull up well."

McVeigh is also experiencing injury woes of his own after seemingly twisting his knee on Friday against Hawthorn.

"I'll train today and tick a few boxes and I should be right to go," he added.

He is thankful, however, that the injury was not so grave to prevent him from playing in the semis.

The skipper is determined that a different Swans team will show up on Saturday in spite of their dismal performance against the hawks.

"We were embarrassed with the way we played and finished off,"

Meanwhile, Collingwood forward Alex Fasolo is thrilled to make a comeback to the AFL in the 2014 season, after fracturing his right navicular bone.

After undergoing extensive rehabilitation, Fasolo is now in better shape and is up and running, literally.

"[The foot] is absolutely terrific. I just started running in the last couple of weeks so I'm hoping to fly into 2014, day one of pre-season," Fasolo told AFL.com.au.

"I'll be back normal time, [when] one to four years [players start training], early November."

"I'd like to think I'll be around for round one of the NAB Cup but that's honestly not one of my goals - round one [of the home-and-away season] would have to be my goal."

Fasolo can't wait to return to full training, but admits that it may take time.

"At the end of the day, I probably could roll into day one and do everything but with the way footy is these days, with a three-month pre-season, I'd rather be flying in March than November,"

"It will probably be slightly modified by I'll be doing almost everything."
