Alec Baldwin Speaks Out After ‘Rust’ Movie Shooting

Alec Baldwin spoke out about the fatal shooting on the set of the movie “Rust” after he and his family were followed by the paparazzi in Manchester, VT.

On Saturday, Baldwin pulled over on the side of the road to speak to a group of photographers, who made his children cry by constantly following them.

The 63-year-old actor was accompanied by his wife, Hilaria, who pulled out her phone and appeared to be recording the encounter.

Baldwin agreed to answer the photographers’ questions but revealed he would not comment on the police investigation. “It’s an active investigation in terms of a woman died, she was my friend,” Baldwin said.

The actor was then asked whether he would ever work on another film set with firearms but insisted he couldn’t answer that question.

However, Baldwin revealed the current “ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on film sets is something I’m extremely interested in.”

The actor admitted the shooting incident has caused him to question how many other real firearms have been used on sets without anyone’s knowledge.

“But remember, how many bullets have been fired in films and TV shows in the last 75 years. This is America,” Baldwin said. “How many bullets have gone off in movies and on TV sets before? How many billions in the last 75 years? And nearly all of it without incident.”

The actor continued, “So what has to happen now is, we have to realize that when it does go wrong and it’s this horrible, catastrophic thing, some new measures have to take place. Rubber guns, plastic guns, no live -- no real armaments on set.”

“That’s not for me to decide. It’s urgent that you understand I’m not an expert in this field, so whatever other people decide is the best way to go in terms of protecting people’s safety on film sets, I’m all in favor of and I will cooperate with that in any way that I can.”

Baldwin’s conversation with the paparazzi comes after the fatal shooting on the “Rust” set. At the time, Baldwin was rehearsing a scene and was handed a “cold gun,” which he thought was safe to use.

However, the gun fired a real bullet, which fatally struck cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. The production of “Rust” has been shut down indefinitely as police investigate the shooting.
