The New South Wales (NSW) Parliament House located in Sydney, Australia faced a lockdown on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. Reportedly, the parliament has been locked down due to a bomb scare just outside the parliament. Also, a man armed with explosives has been reported to be present in the nearby area.

Macquarie Street, the area where the NSW parliament is blocked due to the threat to the security of the parliament, parliamentarians, people and the area nearby. It is reported to be a major security scare.

As per the reports, the riot police and the bomb squad has arrived with two riot squad vans and two fire trucks and are attending to the potential bomb threat situation. It was reported that a white Chrysler arrived in the afternoon and was parked on a footpath just outside the historic building. Reportedly, police were questioning the driver of the suspected car.

Earlier it was reported by Yahoo News that the driver of the car handed a note to the police at the scene. The contents of note were not revealed. Later Business Insider Australia reported that the driver in the car is carrying a bomb. "The man says he has a bomb. Riot police are talking to him," revealed a source who was inside the threatened building as reported by Business Insider Australia.

The news was confirmed when the Treasurer Mike Baird tweeted about it. He reported that he was still inside the building along with NSW Premier Barry O' Farrell, when police ordered the lock down.

"It's unclear whether the man who has sparked security lockdown outside State Parliament has made any threats. Police are very close to him. There's a policeman standing right next to the man, so I don't think they are that concerned about possibility of explosives," reported Sarah Gerathy a reporter of Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Police refused to reveal details regarding the alleged bomb scare situation outside the NSW, Sydney, Australia Parliament. According to Sydney Morning Herald, a police spokeswoman has reported that it is a "police operation." Macquarie Street has been closed down and onlookers from the nearby buildings have been asked to leave the area
