Alessandro del Piero not Leaving Sydney FC
Alessandro Del Piero has confirmed that he has no plans of leaving Sydney FC. Del Piero cleared out the rumours on Friday.
"I'm happy here," said the 39-year-old Italian footballer. He also stated that he is devoted about the current season with Sydney. "I don't have other thoughts about other teams at the moment," said Del Piero. He also made it clear that he will be staying with the club until the end of the season. Does this mean that he is still keeping his options open?
Sydney FC's chief executive Tony Pignata also denied the rumours of Del Piero leaving the club. He assured the fans that Del Piero is happy with Sydney. Pignata said that he is not sure where the rumours are coming from, but he blames most of them in the social media. "I can categorically say they are not true," said Pignata. He also said that fans can expect the Italian athlete to play for the club in January as well as the rest of the season.
The buzz of discontentment all started when Del Piero walked out from the 2-0 win over Newcastle. Del Piero strangely replaced himself prior half-time. His peculiar gesture has earned him a yellow card.
Pignata said that people tend to misinterpret things, especially Del Piero's actions recently. The executive explained that Del Piero was only showing aggravation because he wants to play, and not because he wants to leave the club. Pignata further affirmed that the Italian football superstar has no problems with the team or anyone in the club, or else they will be the first ones to know.
Del Piero signed a two-year contract with Sydney FC on Sept. 5, 2012. He is reportedly paid $2 million per season, which made him the highest-paid footballer to ever play in the A-league. He is currently ranked fourth in list of Italy's all-time leading scorer. In 2013, Italian national coach stated that he would mull over getting Del Piero to play for the 2014 World Cup.
