Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie To Play Tarzan And Jane In New Film
Margot Robbie is going to be Jane. The Australian actress is teaming up with “True Blood” star Alexander Skarsgard for a new 3-D film adaptation of the classic “Tarzan.”
The project is going to be an A-list affair, with Samuel L Jackson and Christoph Waltz also co-starring with the two leads.
“Harry Potter” helmer David Yates will be directing the screenplay based on the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
“We have assembled a phenomenal international cast to tell this extraordinary story. Warner Bros has also enjoyed long and successful collaborations with both David Yates and Jerry Weintraub, and we look forward to seeing what they and the entire team have in store for the timeless tale,” Warner Bros president of creative development and worldwide production, Greg Silverman, said.
The live-action “Tarzan” remake will hit U.S. theatres on July 1, 2016.
Robbie, 23, was called a revelation in the Academy Award-nominated film “The Wolf of Wall Street,” almost even taking the limelight from the main star Leonardo DiCaprio himself. The film allowed her star to shine in Hollywood, with filmmakers noticing her more now.
She replaced Kristen Stewart in the Will Smith-starrer “Focus,” which will be released later in 2014, and has stepped in for Amanda Seyfried after the American actress bowed out of the upcoming film “Z for Zachariah, which is currently in production in New Zealand.
For her latest project, she has also reportedly beaten Emma Stone for the role of Jane.
Skarsgard, meanwhile, is currently filming the seventh and final season of the HBO series “True Blood.”
