Alleged Daycare Rapist Heather Koon Held On $2M Bond
Day care worker Heather Koon was accused and arrested for two counts of rape. The Lorain County Sheriff's Office in Ohio announced in a statement that the 25-year-old had allegedly violated two of the toddlers that she was professionally caring for.
A full-time employee of ABC Kidz Childcare in Elyria, Koon's activities were inadvertently found out by the police late last week when they went to check on Koon's boyfriend, James Osborne, a registered sex offender. They found an unregistered laptop where Koon had videos saved of the alleged rapes. After the discovery, Osborne was arrested and the laptop with incriminating evidence was confiscated.
Understandably, ABC Kidz authorities are completely distraught over the fact that they hired a person who was not only unfit for taking care of children but harmed two of their charges. "It's just sickening," said Tracy Porter, an assistant administrator at ABC Kidz, to WKYC. "We love these children here and we try to provide them with a safe and secure environment."
Apparently, the suspect worked for approximately eight months in the child care facility before being asked to leave in April for issues connected to another staff member. The most terrifying thing, as far as the public is concerned, is that Koon was screened both by the FBI and the BCI during the hiring process-a petrifying possibility that one can never know who to trust. "She seemed perfectly fine. I trusted her with my daughter so I feel like if I trusted her with my daughter being a mom myself, I would have trusted her with anyone," said the center's administrator, Alyssa Anger, in the same interview.
Koon was taken to the Lorain County Jail where she was arraigned for the rape charges. Upon hearing the bond's total amount of $2 million, a million for each count, a collective gasp was audible among those present in the court. Though the case is still under investigation, the state prosecutor says that there is "very strong evidence" of the suspect assaulting her victims who are 1 and 2 years old, respectively. Koon is also due back in court on Oct. 15.
