Katy Perry turned into a Japanese Geisha at the 2013 American Music Awards happening at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The very talented singer performed on her new single "Unconditionally" and kicked off the show in a traditional style.

The 28-year-old looked like an anime princess from a Japanese movie as she started the show with her spell bound performance. Perry posted a picture of her prop and hinted her fans about the traditional dress on Twitter.

"A clue to the theme of my AMA performance this evening! I will be OPENING the show & taking you on a trip!!!," Perry wrote on Twitter a day before her performance.

Prior to her performance, Perry wore a strapless black dress and was at her sensual best at Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, arriving on the red carpet. The Roar" hitmaker wore an Oscar De La Renta gown which highlighted her slim waist and her hair was curled softly to fall graciously over her face.

The star studded night is hosted by Pitbull along with Ke$ha. "A Miracle, America, that I'm here tonight," Pitbull joked as he kicked off the show.

Another surprise dresser of the evening was Lady Gaga who looked demure in straight golden locks falling over her face but had all eyes on her when she arrived on a horse! Though the singer was dressed conservatively (with all clothes on unlike the MTV Video Music Awards where she was dressed in a bikini) as Lady Godiva who famously rode naked on a horse in medieval times. Gaga's artificial horse was stylishly dressed too in white matching the singer's outfit.

The 28-year-old songstress, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, performed her latest single "Do What U Want" alongside R Kelly. Meanwhile all eyes are on Miley Cyrus who is expected to conclude the evening with her performance. The "We Can't Stop" singer came dressed in a white suit with no bra as she posed with pictures alongside her dad country singer Billy Ray Cyrus.

Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Luke Bryan, Miley Cyrus, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Jennifer Lopez, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Justin Timberlake and TLC are among those appearing. See Katy Perry's AMA performance below.
