AMA 2013 Results: Justin Timberlake & Rihanna, Best Male/Female Artist for Soul/R&B
The choice for Best Male and Female Artist for Soul/R&B is always a tricky job, but for this year's nominees only two names are shining among the rest and these two artists truly deserves this honor. Justin Timberlake and Rihanna took home the Best Male and Female Artist for Soul/R&B for the 41st edition of American Music Awards.
Rihanna
The recipient of the first ever "AMA Icon Award," Rihanna took home a statue will forever remind her of her contribution to the pop culture and by being the best of what she does. Presented by Rihanna's mother, Monica Fenty, the award is one of the most prestigious award for the 41st edition of American Music Awards.
Before presenting the award to her daughter, Fenty expressed her happiness to her daughter's achievement. "The journey of your career has not always been an easy one, but tonight I applaud and honor you for being so strong," says Rihanna's mother.
The "Diamond" singer also sends her gratitude to her fans, friends, family and mentors who kept her sane and driven to her career. "I can't believe that at 25 years-old I'm holding an Icon award. If you know me, then you know that I love you. I am grateful. I'm only as good as my team, so I love you so much," Rihanna closed her speech.
Before accepting the award, the 25-year-old singer won the award for Favorite Female Artist for Soul/R&B beating Ciara and Alicia Keys. She also performed one of her 12 Billboard Top hits, "Diamond" in full orchestra.
Justin Timberlake
Performing his latest single "Drink You Away," Justin Timberlake is AMA's biggest winner for this year's awards. Thanks to her latest album 20/20 Experience, the 32-year-old singer took home three awards out of his five nominations.
Timberlake was awarded as the Favorite Pop/Rock Make Artist beating Robin Thicke and Bruno Mars, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist beating Miguel and Robin Thicke and Favorite Soul/R&B Album beating Rihanna's Unapologetic and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines.
