Amanda Bynes Diagnosed with Schizophrenia; Psychiatric Hospital Required Star to Stay Longer for Further Mental Health Evaluation [PHOTOS]
The die has cast, Amanda Bynes needs mental help and the hospital required her to extend stay for more psychiatric treatment.
Two weeks after the first involuntary mental health evaluation, officially called 5150 order authorized by the courts, the former child star was not allowed to leave the psychiatric hospital on the last day she was first set to extend her stay.
On July 23, 2013, Amanda’s parents, Nick and Lynn Bynes both asked the She’s the Man star’s doctor to request the court to extend her stay after the first 72 hours she underwent observation.
The star was put in police custody to undergo the three-day non-stop mental health evaluation after she set fire on the driveway of an elderly widow in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood, her parents current place of residency.
Despite her lawyer’s protest, the star was extended on July 23 for further mental health assessment. The doctors only ordered extension for two weeks. While her legal representative was working on her move to leave the facility after the first set extension, the medical officials deem it necessary that she needed more time to undergo treatment. Reports claim, doctors now diagnose her with “clear signs” of schizophrenia.
Meanwhile, the former child star and aspiring fashion designer has found an ally in America’s Got Talent host Nick Hammon. The show’s host shared an open letter giving her his full support and reminding her to stay strong as the media continues to lead the star in her downfall.
"I tweeted a few weeks about how the entertainment industry just consumes people and spits them out like flavorless bubblegum. A few chews of enjoyment then they’re under a city bus bench,” Nick’s open letter reads.
Hammon also reiterated in his letter that Amanda has him as a friend and offered his hand for any kind of help she may find herself in need at these trying times.
He said, "I say to my sister Amanda Bynes you’re not alone. I’m here for you. I understand. I care and I appreciate you, because that’s what family does and that’s what family is for. I also extend this to anyone else in my life, past or present that may find themselves in hard times."
Concluding his express for support, Hammon said: "I’m here! Call me! Because I truly believe, the hand you’re helping up today may be the one you’re reaching for tomorrow."
While her lawyer claims there was no legal basis for Amanda be detained at the hospital, the doctors described Amanda’s mental situation as “fragile” and it is in her best interest to stay at the hospital.
There was no indicated number of days for her second extension. But Amanda is sure not going anywhere.
