Amazon launched its Australian Appstore that gives Amazon Appstore and Kindle Fire users a free paid premium app everyday which includes Quickflix and iheartradio, Candy Crush Saga, Facebook, Twitter and Stick Cricket; and the full version of the Documents To Go app, which allows Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files to be edited on a mobile device.

Also, Amazon Appstore and Kindle Fire customers are given special six weeks free streaming from Amazon Quickflix.

The Australian Amazon Appstore also includes personalised recommendations, customer reviews and 1-Click payments.

"We'll be extending an invitation to all Amazon Appstore and Kindle Fire customers to receive a special six weeks free streaming subscription trial including a bonus new release movie stream," Quickflix Chief Executive Stephen Langsford said in a statement.

"We're thrilled to make the Amazon Appstore available to millions of customers in Australia who own Android devices today. Australian mobile users are recognised for being tech-savvy and we look forward to making it easy for them to discover and purchase the apps and games they love," said Mike George, vice president, Amazon Appstore and Game Services.

"It's great to be a part of Amazon's Australian Appstore launch. I think people will be really pleased to find Stick Sports games available on this exciting new channel," said Paul Collins, CEO of Stick Sports.

"iHeartRadio is a great way to find new music based on artists and songs you love. The app is easy to find on the Amazon Appstore and it's easy to use wherever you are on your Android device or Kindle Fire. That's why we're so excited to have our app available on the Australian Amazon Appstore" said Kate Beddoe, national digital director, ARN.

Launching the Australian Amazon Appstore is Amazon's way of attracting more Australians to their tablet devices which had attracted few users in the country. Due to content rights issues, most of the popular TV shows available from U.S. Amazon store cannot be viewed in Australia. Also, Amazon hopes to make the Australian Amazon Appstore the Aussies' choice next to Apple's App Store instead of the Google Play.

"The localised app store will be most relevant to Amazon customers who can use their existing account to purchase Android apps and content. It might give access to consumers to lower price apps and will help the company to build mind share in what is an increasingly competitive Android ecosystem," Telsyte analyst Foad Fadaghi told Financial Review.
