According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), the iPhone is no longer the most satisfying smartphone. Toppling the ubiquitous iPhone that’s been a craze among business smartphone users is Samsung Galaxy, a flexible and stylish response to Apple’s high demand mobile device.

Tech watchers saw this company when Samsung began using an alternate OS platform from Google – Android – to do just about everything Apple can do with the iPhone. Though there have been some allegations and lawsuits about who did what first, it is fair to say that Android has made a case for itself in the smartphone market.

The ACSI study confirms the theory that Mountainview, California-based Apple is going to have to try harder to earn the respect of its fan club. A couple of things that play into a mild deterioration of iPhone’s popularity is that each version of the iPhone feels like its obsolete. For instance, there are obstacles to using the iPhone during international travel and that stems from locking the iPhone to a particular carrier.

Another problem is that iPhones are not easily updated. Some of the operating systems and releases work only for certain models like the iPhone 3gs, or the iPhone 4s. This makes the iPhone a high maintenance device.

In terms of new releases, many iPhone users say that the iPhone 5 is in need of more tweaks to make it fully marketable to U.S. consumers. There is also the company’s shift in leadership from former co-founder & CEO Steve Jobs, who was an expert engineer of “all things technical,” to Tim Cook, who has the difficult role of fitting into Jobs’ shoes or making a mark on the smartphone industry with more enhancements to the iPhone.

In terms of customer satisfaction, the ACSI survey highlighted the Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II as the best picks among smartphone users. Both Samsung phones were rated 84 in a scale from 0 to 100. Tying in second place, the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 tagged at 82, trailed by iPhone 4 in third place.

The survey rated phones based on overall experience and quality experience such as making phone calls, texting, and performance indicators like battery durability, said a spokesperson for the ACSI survey, reports The Huffington Post.
