Sarah Paulson is likely to be seen in one of the most challenging roles in "American Horror Story" Season 4, subtitled "Freak Show."

Ryan Murphy, co-creator of "American Horror Story," said in an Entertainment Weekly's podcast, as quoted by Enstars, Paulson's character is "the most challenging character I've ever created. I'm nervous for Sarah."

In an interview with Vulture, Paulson had said that she is working on a "very special skill" for her role. Murphy said that the actress has to go through "physical rigors" to portray her role of a freak in Season 4 of "American Horror Story."

Paulson feels that her role in Season 2, subtitled "Asylum," is her most challenging moment in "American Horror Story" so far. At The Hollywood Reporter round-table, the actress said, "... it was twofold: One, when I had to simulate performing an abortion on myself, and two, playing a 75-year-old woman. That was very hard. And it was very important to me to kind of hold on to who the character of Lana Winters was as an older person, not just go into a kind of caricature. Also, I had the crazy makeup on that was terrifying."

Meanwhile, Murphy is very excited about "Freak Show," the fourth edition of FX's popular horror anthology series. As previously reported, "American Horror Story-Freak Show" will feature Jessica Lange as a German ex-pat who is running one of the last freak shows in the U.S. This freak show will be based in Jupiter, Florida. Lange's character is also described as a rescuer of the performers and these performers will do everything to keep the business running.

Murphy has called this last freak show a "super scary thrill ride." He said that it is also "about something. It's about a group of people . . . who are the last existing freak show in America."

The freaks in the show are "desperate to stay together," Murphy added.

The Season 4 is set in Jupiter but the team of "American Horror Story" will return to New Orleans to film the upcoming series.
