‘American Horror Story’ Season 4 ‘Freak Show’ Update: All are Freaks!
"American Horror Story" Season 4, "Freak Show," is set to feature one of the last freak shows in the U.S., which will be run by Jessica Lange's character, a German ex-pat. There will be a group of performers who have been rescued by this German ex-pat. These performers will do everything to keep the show running and may include a bearded lady and conjoined-twins. According to Angela Bassett, she is playing neither of the two characters, but is one of the freaks.
Bassett said to Vulture that she is not the bearded lady. She said, "You know it's 'freak show,' so your mind begins to work. I had an opportunity to see [Ryan Murphy, co-creator of "American Horror Story"] -- and I knew it was going to be fabulous and the writers are amazing, but you know a woman's curiosity. I said, 'Ryan, am I the bearded lady?'"
Murphy said to Bassett that she is not the bearded lady but will be playing something "even more special."
"I don't know what other freaks there are. After the bearded lady and the conjoined twins, what else is there? We're all freaks," the actress said to Vulture.
In addition to Bassett, it is expected that Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Frances Conroy will be part of the performers' group. Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe and Jamie Brewer are also returning to star in "American Horror Story" Season 4, the "Freak Show."
As reported previously, Denis O'Hare, who played Spalding in "Coven," will be seen as "collector of freaks" and not as one of the freaks in the show. His character will be pitted against Lange's character and he will be seen working at cross-purpose with her.
Also, veteran actor Michael Chiklis has been roped in to play the ex-husband of Kathy Bates' character and the father of Evan Peters' character.
The new season of "American Horror Story" is set in Jupiter, Florida (1950) though the shooting will take place in New Orleans. The previous season was shot as well as set in New Orleans. Like the previous, the tone of the upcoming, new season will be lighter.
