Singer-actress Lady Gaga revealed music turned her into a “money making machine” and she nearly quit the industry years ago.

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, said she had to ask herself the root cause of her unhappiness before making a decision. The “Love Game” singer said she forgot to show her real purpose in singing.

“I feel said when I’m overworked, and that I just become a money making machine, and that my passion and my creativity take a back seat; that makes me unhappy,” she explained.

Entertainment Tonight reported that the superstar’s revelation was part of her Emotion Revolution project between her Born This Way foundation and Yale’s Center for Emotional Intelligence.

The 29-year-old singer stressed that she had to find herself again by saying “no” to taking things like sponsorships and promotions, and attending events. Gaga said the experience felt “shallow” to her existence that people only wanted her image when she has “a lot to offer.”

When she started taking a stand, Gaga said she began to feel herself again and happy with what she’s doing.

“Slowly but surely, I remember who I am. Then you go home and you look in the mirror and you’re like ‘Yes, I can go to bed with you every night.’ Cause that person? I know that person. That person has balls. That person has integrity. That person just doesn’t say yes,” the singer said.

Gaga also took notice that people are no longer communicating with each other, but “unconsciously communicating lies.”

The singer recently started opening about herself and her past experiences in life. Earlier this month, Gaga was featured on the cover of Billboard magazine where she shared her struggles with depression and anxiety. She also told the magazine how she coped up with her condition.

Just this month, Gaga’s Born This Way foundation signed a three-year deal to inspire teen empowerment with Mattel’s Monster High. In September, Gaga released her new song “Till It Happens To You” in support of organisations helping sexual assault survivors. She, herself was sexually abused at 19.
