The contenders for the crown are now down to four talented people.

As the finals draw near, the pressure mounts for the four remaining hopefuls to bring their greatest performances. This round's themes required the contestants to sing songs from California artists and "songs they wish they have written".

Here is the recap of the Top Four performances.

Phillip Phillips

Phillip sang the classic Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Credence Clearwater Revival for his first song. Fans know Phillip doesn't have those high notes, but he makes up with charm onstage. Sadly this time, the Phillip that propelled him to the Final Four was missing.

Phillip did a complete 180 when he sang Volcano by Damien Rice. Although singing obscure tones has been his trademark, it was risky to do that at this point of the competition. But performed it, he did.

Hollie Cavanagh

This was a make-or-break round for perennial bottom-dweller Hollie. Sadly, it looks like she won't be onstage next week. She first sang Faithfully by Journey. Randy Jackson, who used to work with Journey, described it as doing "Steve Perry proud". But Hollie's climb went downhill in the second round. She sang Bonnie Raitt's I Can't Make You Love Me. Hollie have had problems internalizing the song's emotions, and that problem reared its ugly head.

Joshua Ledet

Judges favorite Joshua sang a karaoke-staple You Raise Me Up but his tendency to overdo songs got the worst of him. For the second round, Joshua earned his nth standing ovation from the judges. Sadly, his rendition of James Brown's It's a Man's Man's World destroyed the original. His soul and voice didn't do the song justice.

Jessica Sanchez

The petite 16-year old marked her slot in the Final Two with her delivery of two all-time classics. Her first song, Etta James' Steal Away, was a gamble on her part as she should be using her full vocal range instead of choosing a jazzy beat.

But talk about saving the best for last. Jessica closed the show with an out-of-this-world rendition of And I'm Telling You by Jennifer Holliday. This song sealed the lips of the doubters if there are any, and probably sealed her slot in the Final Two.
