American Idol 2013 (Season 12) Wednesday saw the Top 10 Boys tried (some of them too hard) to be as good as the Top 10 Girls. But most of them failed, with only Burnell Taylor and Devin Velez standing out in the vocals aspect.

American Idol 2013 Judges: Top 10 Boys a 'Filter Fail?'

American Idol judges Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj must have been looking back to the Idol hopeful guys they've seen since auditions. How did they arrive at this Top 10 Boys? Still, they did pretty well with the Top 10 Girls.

The judges saw a pop star material in Elijah Liu, as the judges last year thought 15-year-old Eben Franckewitz was a marketable contender. But Eben couldn't compete with the big boy's vocals. He was sent home after the first voting round. Same story this year? Liu tried to unleash his pop star vibe with Rihanna's "Stay," but the performance overall was just weak.

Cortez Shaw was forgettable with Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven." He was overrated last week. Surely, there must have been a filter fail there.

Charlie Askew will need all the support he can get from his Awkward Turtles. He got distracted and forgot to deliver music the way he used to. His take on Genesis' "Mama" was just bad. Charlie Boy has drawn a lot of supporters, though. He could still make it to Top 5 Boys.

Nick Boddington came off pretty decent with Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris." But there was no superstar sparkle on stage.

Burnell Taylor made a smart decision to go with "I'm Here" from The Color Purple. This guy will take a slot in the Top 5 Boys. Fearless forecast or the easiest one to make?

Paul Jolley wasted the chance that tie-breaking mentor Jimmy Iovine gave him. If he had just honed his vocals and drop the drama, he could have made it work with Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton's "Just a Fool."

Lazaro Arbos did pretty well with Nina Simone's "Feeling Good." But the judges were unnecessarily over-raving about it. Still, Arbos could also make it t Top 5 Boys.

Curtis Finch Jr. has some vocal prowess, true. That said, he shouldn't have gone all too safe (and cliché) with R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." Another overrated contender. He'd make it to Top 5 Boys.

Devin Velez has a good, soothing balladeer voice, which was evident with Perry Como's "Somos Novios (It's Impossible)."But he's got to work on developing some star quality vibe. Some people are just born with it. He's not, so he's got to work it.

Vincent Powell showed so much potential in the past Idol rounds. But Boyz II Men's "End of the Road" didn't quite work for him. Between Devin and him, tho, he's got a better chance at the Top 5, thanks to all the screen time given him in previous episodes.

American Idol Girls Out to Get Crown this Year?

Results night airs on Thursday via FOX in the U.S. We'll soon find out the Top 10 Idol finalists this year. Next week, we might see more signs that a girl or Burnell could win the Season 12 title. Candice Glover, Amber Holcomb and Burnell Taylor might race for it.
