American Idol 2013 Top 2: Shocking Results! Candice Glover Makes It, Is She the Producers' Favorite?
American Idol 2013 is down to its Top 2 contestants, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison. The results barely caused any stir after Wednesday's performances. (At least those who noticed the Top 3 song choices knew this was coming.) It had appeared as though Glover is the producers' favorite.
The American Idol Top 3 on Wednesday sang three songs chosen by the judges, resident commentator Jimmy Iovine and the show's producers. Iovine's choices were up first. That round was won by (the shocking) third placer Angie Miller, according to the fierce commentator. Angie sang "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word" by Elton John.
Iovine gave Candice a good material, too - "One" by U2. But his choice for second-placer Kree Harrison ("Perfect" by Pink) was a mismatch to her ability to channel angst and some darkness in character. This has been obvious in all the previous weeks of American Idol 2013. Incidentally, the producers' choice for Kree ("Better Dig Two" by The Bank Perry) also didn't work. Apparently, only the judges knew what's best for Kree, and it's one of those sad songs that try to spark a little positivity - "Here Comes Goodbye" by Rascal Flatts. According to Iovine, Round 2 (judges' choices) went to Kree Harrison.
American Idol producers' perceived favoritism came to play when Candice's turn came. She was asked to tackle a massively popular "Somewhere" from the West Side Story. Candice did not exactly channel Barbra Streisand, but she had the opportunity to really showcase some vocal acrobatics. This same opportunity was not given to Angie Miller or Kree Harrison. Jimmy Iovine later said Candice did not only win Round 3 (producers' choices), but she won the entire night of the competition, as well.
It comes as a surprise to many that early favorite Angie Miller, who has never been in the Bottom 2 or 3, finished in third place of American Idol 2013. The judges got Kree Harrison's back. If not for the Rascal Flatts' number, her entire performance set would have been lackluster.
