American Idol Fans Turn to Twitter: Cheers, Rants and Observations
American Idol Season 11 has announced its winner, 21-year-old Phillip Phillips of Leesburg, Georgia. Naturally, some fans are not happy about the results. Read on to find what Idol viewers and other celebrities are posting on Twitter following the conclusion of the reality show.
Phillip's rival to the title, Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez, has a very strong following in the Philippines. Some of them also enjoyed Phillip's music, while the others would not accept any other winner.
Philippine television personality Paolo Bediones also cheered for Jessica with a reference to the country's boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao.
@paolobediones: Jessica did something that Manny Pacquiao would never be able to do: Unite Filipinos and Mexicans :) Jessica Sanchez is meant for greatness!
Anything goes on Twitter, so some just mention American Idol for the fun of it. Here is an example from Steve Carell.
@SteveCarell: Look for me on American Idol tonight. I won't be appearing, just look for me.
Not to be left behind, American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe also tweeted about the finalists.
@dizzyfeet: Congratulations to Phillip and Jessica. Thanks for making Season 11 so special and keeping #IDOL the #1 American music competition show.
Others couldn't help themselves but react on some rants that Jessica was not favored by American voters for her Filipina mother's roots.
@claudedee: Stop this "AMERICAN" Idol tweets. Jessica Sanchez was born and raised here! Scotty McCreery was half Latino and he still won.
@piamagalona: Jessica is American; she was born in California. You can't join American Idol if you're not American. :)
Here are more shout-outs on Twitter:
@PrettiBoiJULIAN: My mom is here mad cause Jessica didn't win American idol lmao
@Erwaaaan: I'm so very happy for one of my fave, Phillip Phillips. Congrats Mr. American Idol ! Yeay!!!
@Mermanda_: But then again I kinda want Phillip to lose so he can do his own thing musical career wise and not be tied to American Idol.
@leahjohns: I'm not super into American Idol, but I think it's probs the best thing in the entire music world that Phillip won. #goodmusicisstillalive
@shanehawkk: Hoping Phillip loses so he isn't stuck in the American Idol record contract. I'd rather he put out his own stuff on his own terms ASAP
@SDCBrianGeorge: Watching the last few minutes of the American Idol finale. I have no idea who these two are, but I like this Philip dude. Go Philip!
