'American Idol' final season recap for Mar. 31: Mackenzie Bourg gets booted after the first round
In the March 31 episode of “American Idol” Season 15, the judges announced the three finalists. One of the Final Four was sent home by judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr.
There were three battle rounds during the show. The first round consisted of hometown dedications. Mackenzie Bourg visited his grandmother as well as his local hospital in Louisiana. He performed an acoustic version of “Hallelujah,” which the judges loved. However, he was the weakest in the bunch and got eliminated afterwards.
Dalton Rapattoni went back to his hometown Dallas, Texas to visit his grandmother and the school where he teaches music to children. He sang “Calling You” by Blue October, which the judges also liked.
Trent Harmon went to his family restaurant and high school in Mississippi. He did a free concert at the auditorium stage. On the show, he sang “Tennessee Whisky.” The judges thought that the song matched him so well.
La’Porsha Renae also went home to Mississippi. She visited a performance hall and a domestic violence shelter. She sang “Glory,” which the judges described as elegant and graceful.
La’Porsha and Trent dominated the first round.
In the second round, Dalton sang “Dancing In The Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. La’Porsha sang “Stay With Me” by Bette Midler. Trent sang “Drink You Away” by Justin Timberlake.
Keith Urban did one performance before the show proceeded to the final round. However, he did better than the other two in the second round. He is expected to bounce back in the coming episode, although La’Porsha and Trent are also set to be at their best.
Dalton sang “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” as chosen by the judges. They found that Dalton got the key wrong. La’Porsha sang “Hello” by Adele, which the judges adored. Trent sang “Waiting Game” by Parson James, which the judges also loved.
Heading into the next episode, Dalton apparently has some catching up to do, after his below average number in the final round. The final three contestants will be cut down to two on Apr. 6.
