With only five days before the grand finals, American Idol announced Thursday night the Final Two of Season 11: Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips.

These forecasts saw it coming.

Joshua Ledet ends his Idol journey at third place. The Louisiana gospel singer should be proud of his feat. He has done very well, and he has been well-loved by the judges from the beginning.

"Joshua had a good night last night -- not his best night, but very good," Jimmy Iovine said before the results were revealed.

"I actually believe that Joshua is the most exciting showman we have in the contest right now," he added.

Backstage on the show, Joshua said if he goes home, he will vote for both Phillip and Jessica. He should really just pick one of them.

Who is the better performer?

Phillip and Jessica are expected to deliver performances to the level of major concert acts on Tuesday night (US time zone). Phillip is expected to captivate the audience with his compelling bluesy and somber numbers, while Jessica is expected to deliver soulful ballads and heavenly notes.

Who has the stronger fan base between Phillip and Jessica?

Phillip has managed to avoid the bottom three/two all season, while Jessica almost went home at the end of the Top 7 week. She never came back to the bottom after that, as she delivered power ballads week after week.

Phillip's rendition of "We've Got Tonight" Wednesday night could have earned him some fresh support from voters on top of the tweens and female group. Jessica, on the other hand, continues to enjoy the support of the Filipinos and Mexicans in America. (She is Filipino-Mexican-American.)

Who will get more votes?

Had Jessica been able to captivate the tweens and young adult voters, she will have a good chance of winning against Phillip. Consider Phillip's supporters: tweens, young adults and parents. It is like Scotty McCreery vs Lauren Alaina all over again. The guy has the stronger support system.

It is also likely that Phillips is now enjoying the supporters of his friends: Heejun Han, Colton Dixon and Elise Testone. It is such a huge fan base, and it can very possibly beat the Filipino-Mexican-American votes. Still, Phillip's fans cannot be too sure. Complacence can change things.
