Phillip Phillips is back with a go signal from his doctors! The 21-year-old winner of the most recent season of 'American Idol' is back to play and sing on the main scene right in time for him to join the 'Idol' tour.

Not like the rest of the previous AI winners, Phillip Phillips had to stay back and go through a kidney surgery right after being announced as the grand winner. He was up against Jessica Sanchez who ended up as first runner-up.

The singer remained out of the public's eye after responding to the medical need of his body to have his kidney stones removed. He said that it has been long way overdue since he had to even cancel the said operation just to finish the finale. Phillips was so happy to share with Yahoo! Music that he has never been better as now.

'Wow' was all he can say when everything finally sinks in to him that he was the declared winner of the singing competition. He gave an acoustic performance of 'Home' during his Yahoo! Music interview and he certainly did not disappoint.

On the Issues That Shadowed Over His Victory

It could have been just a simple win but it became all the more controversial when it was rumoured that he only won the contest because more sympathised upon learning how seriously sick he was.

The truth behind it is that no one knew how serious things were with his health condition until the show's season ended.

"I never really told anybody until it got really bad at one point, so then it kind of had to get out there. But I didn't want people to vote for me as a sympathy vote or anything. I wanted it to be about music," Phillips said.

Phillips is thankful for all the support and help that his doctors and 'Idol' producers have extended to him. Now that he has a the doctor's go signal, he has 46 musical appointment dates to play in for the 'American Idol' live summer tour for the entire month of July.

Phillips will also start working on his soon-to-be-released album.
