A man in uniform assigned in Afghanistan named to play with Tiger Woods
Lt. Col. Michael Rowells, an American serviceman assigned in Afghanistan could not believe his luck when he won over thousands of amateur golfers vying to play with famous golfer, Tiger Woods. The World’s greatest golf player will meet with the lucky, 2011 amateur golfer at the traditional opening of Dubai Desert Classic Pro-American tournament Wednesday.
Currently deployed at the 401st Army Field Support Brigade in Afghanistan, Rowells, according to Michael Casey of the Associated Press, is expected to fly to Dubai after beating 1,600 contenders for the traditional curtain raiser that will be held at the Emirates Golf Club.
The US serviceman reiterated that this is a chance of a lifetime.
“I am thrilled and can’t believe my luck,” Rowells said in a statement, according to AP.
Rowells recalled how little his hope was for any opportunity to play, giving emphasis on who is he playing with.
“I registered with little hope of actually being selected,” he said. “Miracles do happen, and I am overwhelmed with the prospect of playing … with Tiger. Truly a dream come true,” Rowells said.
