The mute boy, who advanced to “America’s Got Talent” season 11 semifinals without uttering a single word, is ironically “talkative” on social media. The boy with tape on his face, Tape Face, has been highly active on Twitter and Facebook. On his various posts, Tape Face made fun of his fellow AGT contestants or update fans on his shows.
Tape Face’s funny antics and eerie personality helped convinced Americans to keep him in the competition despite not hearing his voice, let alone knowing his name. To aid curious followers of the NBC top-rated talent show, here are 5 things to know about the mysteriously hilarious Tape Face.
1. Tape Face was born Sam Wills in New Zealand on Aug. 28, 1978. The 37-year-old busker and mime eventually moved to the United Kingdom. He lives in London while he stages prop-comic shows across England.
2. Tape Face is married to fellow busker and burlesque performer Felicity Redman. According to The Press, they tied the knot in a symbolic wedding during the Jan. 9, 2009 World Buskers Festival in Christchurch and had a legal wedding in England a year later. In January 2013, Sam and Felicity Wills welcomed their firstborn, Rafferty Basil Danger Wills.
3. Before competing for “America’s Got Talent,” Tape Face has been an award-winning performer in his own right. Tape Face lists his various achievements, citations and notable performances on his website.
4. Tape Face is a social media darling. His quarterfinals act on “America’s Got Talent” season 11 went viral as it gained 4.3 million views (as of posting) since July 26.
