‘America’s Got Talent 2016’ update: Self-taught contortionist Sofie Dossi earns golden buzzer
Teenage aerialist draws flaming arrow with feet
A 14-year-old gymnast from Cypress, California, secured a spot in “America’s Got Talent” season 11 live shows after taking the judges and audience to the edge of their seats with a nail-biting performance on July 13. Sofie Dossie earned a golden buzzer from AGT guest judge Reba McEntire after a two-minute performance that made judges shriek and shake their heads in awe.
Dossie wowed both “America’s Got Talent 2016" judges and audience with a performance utilising an aerial hoop, hand-balancing cane and an archery bow, which she used to draw a flaming arrow with her feet.
Dossie, a self-taught contortionist, hand-balancer and aerialist, has been professionally performing her acrobatic skills on various Broadway shows and circus events before auditioning for “America’s Got Talent.” Her previous performances and shows were documented on her Instagram account.
Love to perform
The video of her audition uploaded on YouTube has gained 1.1 million views for only five days.
“I’ve always loved to perform. It just comes from my heart,” says Dossie during a back stage interview.
“It is one of my dreams to perform in front of millions of people,” she told AGT judge Simon Cowell just before performing. Dossie's father was helping her on-stage with her props as her mother cheered on from the crowd.
Meanwhile, AGT judge Howie Mandel predicted Dossie to "go places" with her talent as Mel B described her performance as "brilliant" and "incredible."
Before the judges could render their judgment on Dossie's presentation, guest judge Reba McEntire already hit the Golden Buzzer since, according to her, “'action speaks louder than words'” in lauding the teenager for her talent.
"America's Got Talent" season 11 aired its maiden episode in Australia last June 8. It airs every Saturday on FOX8.
