Amir Khan has reportedly signed a contract to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2014. According to the Daily Mail, Khan is just waiting Mayweather to sign the contract to finalize the bout.

"I am the one who signed the contract," Khan said. "I have signed my part of the contract," he added. "They have not signed theirs," Khan revealed. "If he wants to fight Amir Khan, then he should sign it," the British boxer noted.

Khan has always been rumored to be the challenger for Floyd Mayweather's next fight in May 3, 2014. Aside from Khan, Marcos Maidana, whom he once defeated in 2010 at the light welterweight division has also been tipped to fight Mayweather.

When Khan learned about the buzz of Maidana being considered as a next possible opponent for the undefeated boxer's next fight, he said he should be fine with it. "If he wants to face someone I have beaten then so be it," Khan noted.

The 36-year-old undefeated boxer from Grand Rapids is down to the last four fights of his money-spinning six-fight deal with ShowTime. Mayweather gave the impression that he certainly wanted to get involved with the fights guaranteed to produce huge pay-per-view buys. Khan doesn't really have that much following in the U.S.

As reported by The Telegraph, Khan remains a favorite contender for the May 3 fight.

"Khan is definitely one of the leading contenders for the fight," Stephen Espinoza, ShowTime executive vice president, said. "I know Amir Khan wants the fight," he added. Espinoza also revealed that Mayweather has not made a decision yet. "I expect an announcement by mid-January or the end of January," he stressed.

Maidana is also a strong candidate for the fight. As for Manny Pacquiao, Espinoza said as much as people would love to see the fight to take place, it is just not going to happen due to publicity issues.

People can really speculate for the time being until Mayweather finally announces the boxer he is about to fight next.
