Amir Khan, who hopes to be Floyd Mayweather's next opponent, has reportedly been denied a U.S. visa, which means that he will not be able to watch Floyd Mayweather's rematch with Marcos Maidana on Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. It was a sad turn of events for the Bolton-born boxer who was extremely looking forward to watch the bout.

Khan took to Twitter to express his dismay after he has been refused entry to the U.S.

Visa to America was declined after i had it approved a week ago. Was looking forward to the fight. Means I'm still in England.

According to a post on his official Facebook account, Khan's visa was previously approved. He was shocked when he was turned away at the Manchester airport when he tried to check in for a Virgin Atlantic flight to the U.S.

Khan said he dropped off his wife thinking he will be able to meet her later on, but he was surprised that his visa was declined. "So I guess the Mayweather fight is off for me, we are still trying to get to Vegas; will let you all know what happens."

Khan was hoping that British Prime Minister David Cameron will be able to help him get to the U.S. for the Mayweather vs. Maidana fight. He later on posted that he was seeking assistance from the prime minister to speak with someone from the U.S. embassy.

The reason for Khan's denied U.S. visa was not revealed, but the Daily Mail stated that it could be linked to his identity being tagged as suspicious because of his name plus the fact that he regularly visits Pakistan, which happens to be his homeland.

Meanwhile, Khan's legal team in the U.S. is also trying to settle matters with immigration officials. A member of his team has said that Khan was dying to get to Vegas to try to negotiate a fight with the undefeated American boxer.

Khan has always expressed his desire to fight Mayweather. At one point, people thought Khan's dream of having a showdown with Mayweather will finally take place after he won in the poll that Mayweather has started. In February, Mayweather created a poll asking his fans to vote for his next fight. Khan won over Maidana in the fan poll, but Mayweather sill chose the Argentine boxer over him.

Speaking to the Mirror, Khan said that he still wants to fight Mayweather, but at the end of the day, it is still the undefeated American boxer who gets to decide who and where he wants to fight.

Khan is set to fight in December fight and is still looking for his next opponent.
