Amy Schumer inspires women to love their bodies with topless Pirelli calendar photo, gives Hanukkah surprise
“Trainwreck” star Amy Schumer has stripped to her undies and posed topless for the 2016 Pirelli calendar. Although she was an unusual choice for Pirelli (the calendar generally clicks steamy photographs of celebrities with flawless figures), women around the globe has praised the American stand-up comedian, producer, writer and actress for her bold move to showcase a figure that today’s society considers “not perfect.”
This is for the first time that the calendar, in its 50-year history, has shifted its focus from skinny supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen and Kate Moss to women who are known for their achievements and not their bodies, reports Mirror. The photograph, taken by world renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, captures the 34-year-old Schumer topless in her knickers, pair of heels and holding a lipstick-stained coffee cup.
Schumer later posted the untouched and un-airbrushed photo on her Instagram account thanking the photographer. She captioned the photo – “Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless woman. Thank you Annie Leibovitz!”
Many women are looking up to Schumer and considering her a role model for feeling comfortable in one’s own skin and for body empowerment, reports E! Online. When asked on how she felt posing topless in front of Leibovitz, the actress was quick to answer back with a joke.
“It felt like I was topless drinking coffee with Annie Leibovitz. Very normal, like any other day of the week,” said Schumer. The two reportedly had fun on the sets during the black and white photoshoot, which is a stark departure from Pirelli calendar’s traditional haute couture photos.
However, the actress did have her reservations but quickly gained back her confidence when Leibovitz made the situation light with her comment.
“At first, my instinct was to suck in and she was like, 'Just lean over and have your stomach hang.' I was like, 'Oh yeah, Imma be me,'” said the “Inside Amy Schumer” creator.
According to Mirror, Schumer joined 13 other women for the calendar’s 2016 edition who are known for their “outstanding, professional, social, cultural, sporting and artistic accomplishment.” Some popular names include Patti Smith, Serena Williams and Yoko Ono.
The photo has inspired some women so much that they recreated the Leibovitz portrait with their own bodies and also shared how much they love being in their current body shape. The three women who were photographed were 19-year-old Jade Dando from Royal Wootton Bassett, Wilts, 21-year-old Daniella Pender from Dagenham, Essex and 26-year-old Hannah Golding from Swindon, Wilts.
Dando is saving money to study event management and is now working at a restaurant. She is size 14. Pender is a single mother and a waitress. She is size 14 too. Golding is size 16 and a beauty queen and personal trainer. To know how Schumer inspired them for posing topless and spreading awareness for body empowerment, click here.
