Android 5.0 Lollipop For Sony Xperia Z Devices Arriving By 2015; Z Ultra GPE Update Confirmed In 2014
Sony Mobile confirms Android 5.0 Lollipop update to all models under the Xperia Z series and set to be released next year. Only the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition is sure to get the newest Android OS in coming weeks.
Official List of Android 5.0 Lollipop Upgradable Devices From Sony Mobile
Sony Mobile already confirmed the devices taking part on the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade plans. It includes both the 2013 and 2014 Xperia models regardless of software support expiration date.

Owners of the devices mentioned above can expect the official Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade by 2015 with Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 as the first batch followed by the rest. Only Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition running the vanilla Android UI will receive the next generation of Android OS in the coming weeks after Google confirms update for several Nexus and GPE devices.
"Android 5.0 Lollipop which comes on Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player will also be available on Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10 and Google Play Edition devices in the coming weeks," official blog from Google.
What To Expect From Android 5.0 Lollipop With Xperia Home UI?
Sony announced that all devices included to the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade plans will receive new features, functionality and improvements to give better user experience. But the announcement did not specify yet which features are planned to be included. Moreover, there is no information yet if Sony plans to expand Android 5.0 Lollipop to other Xperia smartphones such as Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia M2 and Xperia E1 which have been upgraded to Android KitKat.
Next generation Android OS offers features such as integration of mobile devices to wearable gadgets such as Android Wear, new Material Design UI with themes, more customisable notifications, battery overhaul via Project Volta, several changes to speed up Internet and stabilise Bluetooth connection and a new runtime called Android Runtime to make apps run smoother.
