HTC One Google Play Editions will start to receive the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop next week. HTC Executive Mo Versi confirmed the estimated date of release via Twitter.
Official Android 5.0 Lollipop Update For HTC One Google Play Editions Coming Out Next Week
Android 5.0 Lollipop is going to be released for Google Play Editions of HTC One smartphone starting next week. According to a tweet from HTC Executive Mo Versi sent as a reply to an inquiry made by @amir_thedude, Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to rollout by early next week to the HTC One GPE models. However, Mo Versi was not specific if HTC One M8 GPE or HTC One M7 GPE or both will receive Android 5.0 update at the beginning of next week.
Tweet from @moversi seems to match the leak of latest timeline from HTC posted by LlabTooFeR. Based on the leaked timeframe, both Google Play Editions of HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 are expected to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware from late November to December 2014. It will be followed by the Sense variants from January to February 2015 and other several devices from January to March 2015 including HTC Desire EYE, HTC One M8 Dual, HTC One M7 Dual, HTC One E8, HTC One E8 Dual and HTC Butterfly 2.
HTC One Mini 2 and HTC Desire 816 are likely to get the latest firmware from March to April 2015 while HTC One Max, HTC One Mini and HTC Butterfly S are expected to receive Android 5.0 from March to May 2015. Other models from the HTC Desire Series using MediaTek processors are still under evaluation and there is no specific timeframe available at this time.
Android 5.0 Lollipop Features Expected To Arrive On Google Play Editions Of HTC One Series
Since Google Play Editions of HTC One do not feature Sense UI, users will likely receive the default upgrades from Android 5.0 Lollipop such as the new user interface called Material Design having bold and colourful style, new notifications on the lock screen with interactions such as reply or dismiss and new look of the Quick Settings menu with flashlight toggle. Additional Android 5.0 Lollipop default features include Android Runtime engine for better performance of applications, OpenGL ES 3.1 for improved mobile graphics, Smart Lock for better pairing management between devices and SELinux implementation for increased protection against vulnerabilities and malware attacks.
