Android 6.0 Marshmallow update status for Samsung Galaxy S6 series, Galaxy Note 5, Sony Xperia Z5 and older Xperia lineup
Galaxy S6 lineup will receive the OTA update in January 2016
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 series and phablet Galaxy Note 5 are earmarked to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update shortly. Meanwhile, a slew of screenshots pertaining to the S6 running the Marshmallow firmware has been leaked, showing new features and design. To top it off, Sony’s plan for Xperia Z5 and older Xperia lineup was revealed by a regular tipster.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Galaxy S6, Note 5
The freshly leaked screenshots of the Galaxy S6 features a “flattened version” of Samsung’s custom TouchWiz UI, according to Tech Times. The “pull-down status shutter” that acts as a quick access gateway for settings and notifications was also modernized with a blend of white background and blue text.
Furthermore, the South Korean tech giant has reportedly brought in a “Pro” mode to the camera app. This new mode is already available in the Galaxy Note 5 and it helps set the shutter speed, ISO, exposure and white balance, among others.
As far as the rollout date goes, the Galaxy S6 lineup of devices will reportedly receive the OTA update in January 2016. This includes the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+, as well. The Galaxy Note 5, meanwhile, will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in December 2015.
The flatter TouchWiz UI seen in the Galaxy devices running the Marshmallow update looks similar to Google's Material Design language, introduced during the Lollipop OS launch, said Phone Arena says. Samsung has apparently cut down “drop shadows, gradients and 3D effects” to make it appear similar to devices carrying the stock Android design. Lastly, readers can check out the screenshots in the form of slides from Phone Arena, which apparently sourced the images from Weibo.
